When the Pressure Hits
You start the day ready to get things done, but it doesn’t take long before the pressure sets in. Deliveries haven’t arrived. The crew is waiting. Everything feels urgent. Your chest tightens, your shoulders hunch, and your thoughts start spinning— “I can’t let this fall apart. How do I keep up?”
By mid-morning, even small things start to get under your skin. Your body feels wound tight, and your mind won’t slow down. The day already feels exhausting. This is anxiety—your body’s way of responding to stress and pressure.
Anxiety can help in short bursts, keeping you alert and focused. But when it runs all day, every day, it starts working against you. You might notice trouble focusing, second-guessing yourself, irritability, or racing thoughts that follow you into the night. And if you don’t deal with it there, it usually follows you home.
Sometimes anxiety spikes into a sudden panic-like moment—your heart races, your breathing shortens, and everything feels overwhelming or out of control. It can feel intense—sometimes even scary in the moment. But panic doesn’t mean something is wrong with you—it’s your body signaling it needs a break. Slowing down, even briefly, can help settle your system before it takes over.
Catching anxiety early keeps it from spiraling. Here are some practical ways to take back control:
1. Pause and Breathe – Step aside for 30 seconds. Inhale 4 seconds, hold 2, exhale 6.
2. Move Your Body – Stretch your shoulders, roll your neck, or take a short walk to release tension.
3. Focus on One Thing – Bring your attention to the next small task instead of everything at once.
4. Talk it Out – Check in with a coworker, friend, or family member to relieve pressure.
5. Write it Down – Jot down what’s on your mind to spot patterns and triggers.
Bottom Line
Everyone deals with anxiety—and sometimes it hits hard. It doesn’t mean you’re weak or falling short. It means you’re carrying a lot—and your body is trying to keep up.
In those moments when you feel the anxiety building up in your body, it can feel like everything is slipping. But it’s not. Even then, you still have control—you can pause, take a breath, steady yourself, and focus on the next step.
You don’t have to take on the whole day at once. Just get through the moment in front of you. Then the next one.
Because it’s not about never feeling pressure—it’s about knowing that when it shows up, you can handle it… and keep moving forward without losing yourself along the way.
